DO YOU AGREE? Fireboy Is A Bigger Artiste Than Mayorkun

It’s not a lot of time between Fireboy and Mayorkun honestly; they’re close enough to be compared.
Mayorkun may have been nominated as Artiste of the Year at The Headies earlier this year, but so many people (yes, including me) believe that spot actually does belong to Fireboy, who has been stunning through the past year and beyond. But Mayorkun hasn’t been sleeping either.
Both of them are a huge deal in today’s industry. They’re MVP artists, relevant to the culture, and very talented too. They’re both pop stars and collaboration between those two wouldn’t be bad either.
But who’s the bigger artiste really, if we look at it closely? Can Fireboy really be said to be bigger than Mayorkun? Well, here are some factors to consider before making that judgment.
Mayorkun edges Fireboy on this one instantly. Mayorkun has been here since 2016 and five years after he’s still impressing, getting nominated alongside guys like Burna Boy and Davido. Not a lot of artists have what it takes to go that far, really.
Fireboy is only in his third year, having been unveiled in 2018 under Olamide’s YBNL outfit. He’s not as old as Mayorkun, but his three years have been impressive too. However, we’ll still have to wait to see if he stands the test of time. But with the looks of it, he sure will.
Mayorkun’s first single, “Eleko” was a hit. That was 2016, over five years ago. He has released countless hit songs and he is what you call a serial hitmaker. When it comes to numbers of hits, Mayorkun’s got it.
Fireboy isn’t a joke either. His whole debut album was a hit, hit on the streets, on the airwaves. Since 2019, Fireboy hasn’t had a shortage of hits.
Here, it’s a stalemate. If there were to be a battle of hits between them, it’d probably end in a draw.
Fireboy wins here, definitely. The youngster has two solid albums in already. The first one, “Laughter, Tears, and Goosebumps” was released in 2019, while the second, “Apollo” was released last year. There’s already a new one on the way. Fireboy can’t be stopped.
Mayorkun has only one album so far, but his sophomore is due out this October. His debut came far back in 2018 and was a stunner too. A very impressive body of work.
Numbers, they say don’t lie. And when we check their numbers, well, as expected Fireboy edges Mayorkun here. He’s got way more numbers than Mayorkun, number of streams, views on YouTube, sales speculation.
Fireboy even debuted on the Billboard World Albums when he dropped his album last year. Mayorkun will have to run a little bit faster if he’ll ever catch up with Fireboy.
Mayorkun will always have my respect, because of his talent.
But I think it’s safe to say that Fireboy is a much bigger artist than Mayorkun right now. Maybe this will change after the release of his forthcoming album. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
Let’s hear from you.
